Unique Ideas for Your Wedding Day

Nothing quite compares to the excitement of your impending nuptials, but there’s a lot of planning to be done before you can tie the knot with your sweetie. Planning a wedding can be stressful and takes a lot of work, but with a little creativity and a splash of personality you can make every step in the process that much more enjoyable. No bride wants their special day to be just like anyone else’s, so we’ve listed some unconventional ideas to help inspire you in planning one of the biggest celebrations of your life. Because no matter what kind of bride you’re planning on being, your wedding day should be thrilling, memorable and as unique as you are!
Creative “tie the knot” invitations – Announce your wedding day to your loved ones in a much more imaginative way than with a plain card and envelope. These invitations are subtle and simple in appearance, but when opened fully, the string inside will “knot,” symbolizing the union to be made by you and your groom-to-be. If you’re crafty and enjoy a good DIY project, this task is a fairly easy one to complete – simply get your invitations printed up, punch holes on either side of the card, loosely knot a string and thread ends through the holes to secure. Be sure to enlist the help of your bridal party so you’re not overwhelmed with hundreds of knots!

Get food trucks to cater your reception – You want all of your guests to be full and happy before they hit the dance floor so the menu is often one of the most important things to consider when planning a wedding. A buffet or a catered multiple-course meal are traditionally what you would expect at a reception, but hiring food trucks to provide meals is a fun and unique alternative that will definitely get guests’ attention. Freestanding and able to move easily, food trucks are a great option if you are having your wedding reception in a large outdoor space. Instead of waiting in a buffet line, guests will lineup at the food trucks, which will also add some visual interest to your space. Hire several different trucks for a wide variety of food, or stick with a traditional buffet at first and hire a dessert truck for after!
Play flip cup – This classic party drinking game is great for groups! Set up a long table in your reception area and get a little wedding party rivalry going with bride and bridesmaids vs. groom and groomsmen to see who came to win. After the initial game, open up the table to the rest of the guests. As long as you have the same amount of people on either side of the table, it doesn’t matter how large the group is – just make sure your table is long enough! If you’re unfamiliar with how to play flip cup, you can find instructions and official rules here.

Get creative with your guestbook – A guestbook is a great way for all of your friends, family and loved ones to leave you messages and well wishes on your special day, but instead of using a standard book, you can use things like Jenga blocks or smooth pebbles for guests to write down their kind thoughts. Jenga blocks are easy to write on and also make a great keepsake as your first table game as a couple. You’ll be able to revisit the messages and memories from your loved ones and are sure to treasure them every time you play. Your guests can also write on smooth, flattened pebbles with a Sharpie that can be placed in a large glass vase and later displayed in your home. You can also use vintage vinyl records, quilt squares, or virtually anything else that you would like for your guests to leave notes on – the possibilities of what you could turn into a guestbook are endless!

Party with a piñata – With all of the craziness that comes with planning a wedding, what better way for a bride and groom to finally unwind and de-stress than by beating away at a giant piñata? Hang outside or in a courtyard and have guests assemble around to watch the spectacle. Find a piñata that is cake shaped or choose one that will perfectly match the theme of your wedding.
From the invitations, to the ceremony and reception, and everything in between, there are plenty of ways that you can make your special day memorable and one-of-a-kind!
