5 Fun Ways to Include Pets in Your Wedding

We’ve all done it. We’ve pictured just how perfect a wedding photo with our pets would look and thought about the best way to include them in the wedding. Then we’ve paused and asked ourselves if that would be weird and/or messy. We’re here to tell you that including your pet in your wedding is not weird at all! In fact, a lot of people do it and it ends up adding a lot (of fun!) to their special day.
For many of us, pets are an important part of our lives. They’ve been with us through thick and thin, they’ve made us smile with their enthusiasm and also mad when they’ve gone to the bathroom somewhere they weren’t supposed to. When you think about it, pets aren’t that different from family members (we’re pretty sure one of you knows someone who went to the bathroom somewhere they weren’t supposed to) and it’s only natural they take a place of honor on your special day.
Your pets love you, are proud of you and wish for nothing but your happiness, after all. Who wouldn’t want that at their wedding?
To help give you some ideas of how to include your pet in your wedding, we’ve dug and found the five coolest ways to include your pet in your wedding. Remember, no pet is off limits! We’ve seen people include parrots, cats, dogs, horses, pigs… you get the point. Anyway, on with the show!
1. Make your pet the ring bearer
Forget about having crying children (of course not all cry) as ring bearers! Bridal Musings found one of the most unique ways to include your pet in your wedding: make them the ring bearers. Now, it might be a little dangerous and risky to give your pet loose rings or even rings in a box, so for your and your pet’s convenience there is the handy-dandy ring pillow! Just attach the cords around your pet’s back, secure the rings and send them down the aisle! The ring pillows are also pretty affordable.
2. Ride your pet to the wedding
What better way to make an entrance than with your beloved pet? If you have a special horse in your life, consider riding it to the wedding! Riding a horse to your wedding has all sorts of benefits. First, it means you don’t have to worry about falling when you walk down the aisle. It also means that you don’t have to get your shoes dirty. Finally, this is crazy benefit, but should you decide you want to bolt, you’re already on your getaway car.
3. Put your pet on your cake
You know they’ll be wishing they could devour it. Since that wouldn’t be very nice, the next best thing you can do for your pet is put them on top of your cake. This is a great idea because it works for all types of pets and helps you include them without worries that they’ll jump on the wrong person. Also, what pet doesn’t want to live in fame as a wedding cake topper?
4. Dress them up for the big day
If you’re looking to have a more elegant and traditional wedding, considering dressing up your pet in your wedding colors to attend your ceremony. There are all sorts of ways you can do this. Some grooms done bowties on their pets and have them attend as the best man. Brides sometimes make wreaths for their dogs with the same flowers that they have in their bouquet. And then, of course, there is always the cool top hat.
5. Have them walk you down the aisle
We saved the best for last, folks, because this one really touched our hearts. The bride and groom above wanted their dogs to escort them in their first walk as a married couple. This is also a great idea because it means your pets won’t steal the show. They’ll wait patiently for their moment and then glow in pride as they walk you down the road of the rest of your life.
No matter what, you should have whoever you want at your wedding. It’s your day, not anyone else’s. Overall, it’s your party and you can have your pet there if you want to.
